Synopsis: In the millenium version of this classic Gothic horror we find Abraham Van Helsing (Plummer), who has tangled with Count Dracula (Butler) in the past, working as an English antiques dealer. Simon (Miller) is a vampire hunter in training under his apprenticeship. Van Helsing and Simon travel from London to New Orleans to rescue Van Helsing's daughter Mary (Waddell) from the family's life long nemesis - Dracula.

A NOTE FROM THE COMPOSER

The main theme was based on Mary seeing Judas. Even before they started editing or I had locked footage, I had this Iranian singer Mamak Kajdem, come in and I played the main theme for her. We recorded this and I sent it to Patrick. I'm not sure if he cut anything to the music, but in the end it worked out perfectly. We never had to re-record her because we used her original voice, so I wrote the music around that. The cues that started everything are called Brotherly Love and The Sun also Rises, both these cues were based on my main theme. Dracula also has a theme that I came up with, this descending thing. This was written at the same time because I felt we needed a great Jaws kind of theme for Dracula, something memorable. Whenever you hear his theme, you know that Dracula is around the corner or close by. We also created this electronic loop sound that Patrick called "Yo Baby" loop. You hear that whenever Dracula is going to seduce a woman. It's basically the manipulation of a sine wave. I had a vampire hunter theme as well. Whenever Van Helsing and Simon are in control, that's that theme that's playing. The Dracula theme is also connected to Mary because she has a theme that's based on the theme that Mamak sings. So there's the main or Mamak theme, the Dracula theme, the vampire hunters theme, and this "Yo Baby" loop. You can pretty much find any of these themes in every single cue to some extent. The rest of the score is a palette of colors that surround all this.
